Description
AWA is offering two basic woodturning classes to club members one on November 8 & 9 (9 to 5 Saturday & 9 to 1 Sunday). Each class has 10 openings only. Classes are filled on a first come basis so don’t delay if you want in the class. If you are not yet a member, you must join AWA before you can take the class. Dues are $60 for adults and $30 for under 18 for 12 months. Cost of the class is $125 per person. The class fee includes all tools and wood needed for the class. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must attend the class with you (they do not need to take the class). If you are under 14 your parent or guardian needs to consider the following:
I ask this question to all younger folks’ parents. How old is your son or daughter? Has he/she used power tools such as routers, bandsaws, grinders and chop saws? Are you comfortable with only general supervision using these tools? Does he/she have good motor control? Does he/she have a good attention span? Does he/she pay attention to adults? If the answer to any of these questions is no he/she may not be ready to take a turning class. We do encourage young folks in turning but we want them to have a good first experience. If they are not really ready, a bad experience on their first exposure usually ends the desire to become a turner.
To sign up for the class and become a member go to the AWA website akwoodturners.org. If you are not a member, first join AWA. Once you are a member, login. Now go to classes and complete your sign up.
